Steady with the Wind
Principal Investigator: Dr. Brant VanOrman & Rev. Karl VanHarn
An adaptation of the Steady with the Wind curriculum, which focuses on 5 areas of competency for therapists when working with clients regarding religion and spirituality. The materials are arranged in 8 lessons with integrated videos and discussion questions. These can be studied independently, but this adaptation includes notes for facilitators presenting the training to a group. This adaptation includes companion materials for participants to use between sessions, 1:1 meetings with the facilitators, and group case conferences.
Background
The Steady with the Wind curriculum was developed via collaboration between Fuller Theological Seminary and Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services. It was designed for various behavioral health staff members, but is most appropriate for therapists and therapist trainees. The materials are designed to be culturally sensitive and appropriate for work with patients with varied religious backgrounds and spiritual expressions. The adaptation includes pre and post course self-assessment questions, potential CE questions for each of the 8 sessions, recommended resources, and recommended structure for 1:1 consultation with the facilitator(s). The course can be presented in-person or via video platform.
